Program Overview
The Migrant Integration in the Mid-21st Century: Bridging Divides research program is offering financial support through the BD Graduate Student Stipend. This funding is available to graduate students currently studying or planning to study in fields related to one of BD’s research themes.
Eligibility Criteria
A limited number of stipends will be awarded to outstanding full-time Master’s and PhD students at Toronto Metropolitan University. To qualify, students must be pursuing studies in one of the following research areas:
- Immigrant Health and Well-Being
- Employment and Lifelong Learning
- Race and Infrastructures
- Citizenship and Participation
Stipend Details

Master’s Students:
- Up to $20,000 per year for domestic students
- Up to $30,000 per year for international students
- Available for students entering their second year of a Master’s program in Fall 2025

PhD Students:
- Up to $30,000 per year for domestic students
- Up to $40,000 per year for international students
- Available for first-year PhD students starting in Fall 2025
Additional Funding Options
Graduate students receiving external grants (e.g., SSHRC, CIHR/NSERC, or similar independent scholarships) may be eligible for top-up funding from the BD program. Applications for additional funding will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

About the Bridging Divides Program
This program is led by Toronto Metropolitan University’s Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration and works alongside the Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Comparative Migration Policy and Law and the CERC First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) initiative.
