ETH4D Research to Action Grants 2025

Applications are now open for the ETH4D Research to Action Grants 2025. This grant ensures that research findings are applied, disseminated, and translated into real-world solutions. It supports ETH Zurich students, doctoral candidates, postdocs, senior scientists, and professors in developing prototypes, exploring entrepreneurship, and engaging with practitioners.

ETH4D focuses on combining technological innovation with a deep understanding of human behavior and environments to create solutions that improve the lives of disadvantaged communities. The initiative encourages collaboration between scientific research, civil society, industry, and policymakers.

Grant Details

  • Up to 5,000 CHF for students and postdocs
  • Up to 20,000 CHF for professors and senior scientists

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students, postdoctoral scientists, senior scientists, and professors.
  • Students must be enrolled at ETH Zurich at the time of the project.
  • Projects must include a non-academic partner based in the target country, with a letter of support from them.
  • The project must be linked to ETH Zurich, either through previous research, coursework, or collaboration, and should have a global development impact.
  • Preference is given to projects in countries classified as “least developed, low- and lower-middle-income” per the OECD DAC list. Projects outside this list require strong justification.

Application Process

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Detailed budget (Download budget template)
  • A single PDF including:
    • Project description and objectives (Download template)
    • Project work plan and timeline (Gantt chart format)
    • Letter of support from the non-academic partner
    • Financial confirmation letter from an ETH professor or unit
    • CV (maximum 2 pages), including a list of publications
    • One reference letter from within ETH (not required for professors)
